Description
Located on the northeast corner of Charles and Fayette, the Union Trust Company caught
fire because many of its windows had been blown out due to the dynamiting of nearby
buildings in an attempt to stop the spread of the fire. Although the Union Trust burned,
its steel framework held. Known as the Jefferson Building today, it is one of only 10
buildings to survive the fire.
